Episode 7 - Eager to Please Podcast with Megan Flores: Know Your Own Story
Adulting his hard and complicated; but we are ultimately responsible for holding ourselves accountable for living authentically and by our truest selves. In this episode I am so fortunate to sit down with Nashville-based therapist Megan Flores, to talk more in depth about
- Where people pleasing comes from;
- Does your family or the way you were raised play a role in shaping that characteristic in you?
- And how does one heal from chronic people-pleasing?
Megan shares her thoughts on the common trauma responses: fight, flight, and freeze and this "newer" term we both just learned about called fawning (or appeasing) and how “people pleasing” can be considered a response from trauma.
We also talk about the Karpman Triangle, a model of dysfunctional social interactions that we all tend to fall in and out of at some point in our lives during conflict: the victim, the rescuer and the perpetrator (persecutor).
The biggest piece of advice from Megan you'll walk away with is this - we're all human, we all make mistakes, but taking time for self-discovery and understanding that the things you choose to do are moving you forward. Take ownership of your happiness and stay curious.
